When Rachel Allswang, an interior architect, decided to change her career by opening a restaurant, she knew the best way was to bring her mother, Catherine Allswang, on board. Le Garage, serving a culmination of Catherine’s lifelong recipes and inspirations rooted in French cuisine and spiced with flavors and ingredients from around the world. This mother-daughter team is happy to open in Bushwick, Brooklyn a casual chic restaurant where their shared love for great food and hospitality can be realized.
The menu is a seasonal affair where produce is sourced locally and the menu reflects the season. The dishes are replicas of Catherine’s French influenced recipes, created by her over the years at her many restaurants such as La Laiterie Sainte Clotilde, Le Sept/Quinze, Chez Graff and Le Café de Mars in Paris, as well as Le Mistral and South Park Café in San Francisco. Her daughter Rachel, who grew up in her mother’s restaurants, and has worked in a number of top NYC food establishments, is bringing her organizational know-how and Interior Design artistic sensibility.
The large bar at Le Garage serves a selection of natural French and other southern European wines. Simple and approachable cocktails (featuring Le Garage’s seasonal house-made aromatic liqueurs) and local beers.
Le Garage is a true family affair reflecting Catherine and Rachel’s lifelong relationship with food.
